Ratelle, Ernest Alfred

With family by his side, Ernie passed away peacefully on June 8, 2010, in his 90th year. Ernie was born May 7, 1921 in Cornwall, Ontario. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Eileen (Sawden); four children: Michael (Kitty), Helen, Pam (Tom), Janet (Ken); three step-children: Anne (Paul), Laurie (Ken), Doug (Cathy); and daughter-in-law, Jodie (Lon); as well as 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Ernie served in the Army overseas for 61?2 years during World War II. He married Sylvia while in England, in 1945, and divorced after 26 years. His career began with the postal service in Cornwall and he retired early in Parksville in 1979. Ernie and Eileen spent the next 20 years wintering in Yuma, Arizona and Mexico with their many friends. In the summers they enjoyed camping and fishing across Canada with their family and friends. His tee-time with his buddies was also tremendously important to him.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Lantzville Legion on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association or MS Society.
