Dr. Emile de Koninck, 83, of Gabriola Island, died July 29, 2010 at Nanaimo General Hospital.
Predeceased by son Tristan, Emile is survived by wife Christiane; son Alberic; his wife Teresa; and granddaughters Charissa, Melina, Mariah, Marina and Desiree de Koninck, and Jackleen Unsworth and Tanika Doherty.
Emile de Koninck was born on July 18, 1927 in Ostende, Belgium, the first of two sons of the late Alberic and Suzanne de Koninck. He came to Canada in 1957 and obtained his teacher certification and eventually his Master’s and Doctor of Physchology .
Emile had a rich life in education and was known for giving up his time to coach and mentor his students. A devoted father and husband, Emile spent countless days camping with the family. He was actively involved in his community.
Upon retiring in 1991, Dr. de Koninck served as an officer on the local parole board.
He will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial will be held at a future date.
