Eleanor Rafter

Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma Eleanor Rafter, passed away at her home on April 19, 2017 at the age of 92.

Predeceased by her husband Alf in 1998 after 52 years together, Eleanor is lovingly remembered by daughter Sharen (Ron); son Gordon (Marcia); 4 grandsons Sean (Lise), Brett (Donna), Jordy (Brigitte) and Nick (Tilly); w granddaughters Penny (Mark) and Christina; 4 great-granddaughters and 4 great-grandsons. Eleanor is also survived by brother Darwin Simpson; sister Ethel Sorenson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Nanaimo, Eleanor worked in Vancouver for a short time in her early years. Once back in Nanaimo she was to become a full-time mother, helping Alf build their house in the Townsite area. Active to the end, Eleanor loved her Monday and Thursday afternoon carpet-bowling at the Wellington Hall, the endless hours spent fine-tuning her flower gardens and the special times spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eleanor’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the people and organizations who helped in ensuring Eleanor’s wishes to remain at home were accomplished with dignity and compassion. Thanks go out to the Palliative Care Unit (special thanks to Holly and Inga) and Home Support Teams of the Nanaimo Health Unit, the Red Cross, Nanaimo Lifeline, Nanaimo Disability Resource Center, Motion Mobility, Dr. Carson, Dar. Carlson, and Dr. Uchman.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
