Edna Lorraine Arnold

We are saddened to announce that our mother, Edna, passed away August 31, 2017, at the age of 88.

Born June 9, 1929, in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, to parents Frank and Eleanor (Nell) LaPointe.

She made a heroic trip at 9 years old, alone, on a train to Vancouver, to live with her sister Kay. Her mother joined her two years later. She graduated from book-keeping school and entered her chosen profession which she practiced up to 2013.

She married Frank Arnold in September 1947 in Vancouver, BC. They had two sons, Jack and Dennis, and lived from 1951, as a family, in Penticton until 1969, when Frank passed away.

In 1973 she moved to Victoria and continued doing accounting work as well as being manager of the Army and Navy Club. She moved to Nanaimo in the mid-80's to be closer to her sons and her grandchildren.

Edna was an avid gardener, a walker and hiker, a curler, and a real sports fanatic. She loved hockey and football. She loved to dance and sing and truly enjoyed being in choirs and sing-a-longs. In the Kiwanis Lodge she was a member of the Chorus and performed in the years before her illness took over. She loved Volunteering for the Legion and was a member in Penticton, Victoria, and finally in Lantzville.

She is survived by her sons, Jack, and wife Tammie (Nanaimo), her son Dennis, and wife Crystal (Fort Nelson). Grandchildren, Frank Arnold and wife, Tammy, (Victoria); Britt (Arnold) and husband, Eric Walton, (Burnaby); Jaylene (Arnold), and husband Greg MacIver, (Fort Nelson); Jason Arnold and wife Krista (Spruce Grove). Her great grandchildren, Zachary and Isabella Arnold, as well as Liam and Ellie Walton.

She leaves behind her very dear friends, Ray and Kelly Boroski, John and Linda Stewart, Doris and Bob McNeil, Rochelle Pelletier, all of Nanaimo; her friend of over 50 years, Susan Huson of Victoria, and Ruth Bathgate of Regina. In addition, too many friends and relatives in various parts of Canada.

Special thanks to our special friend Lori-Ann Makosiej for all your caring and help with Mom's care on her journey over the last two years. Mom loved you and our family loves you.

Special thanks to ALL of the staff at the Soroptomist Suites and Kiwanis Lodge in Nanaimo. From Housekeepers, to Cooks, to Care Aids, to LPN's and Nurses and Events people, YOU ALL were amazing and so caring for Edna as she ended Life's journey. Thank you so much for all you did for her and our family members.

Mom will be laid to rest, alongside our dad, Frank, in Penticton, overlooking the Okanagan Lake Beach where the family had so many good times.

As part of their monthly church service at the Kiwanis Lodge, there will be a small tribute to Edna on October 11, at 10:30 a.m. on Floor One.

Family and friends are welcome to attend.

There will be a small reception at Jack and Tammie's, 5480 Mildmay Rd, Nanaimo, following the service.
