Howard, Edmund (Ed) David

August 18, 1920 ~ April 8, 2009

The son of Edmund Lionel Howard and Amy (nee Taylor). After formal schooling, Dad went to work for the Bank of Commerce. He was in the artillery during WWII (K15388) assigned to Casualty Cable Section from D-Day on. After the war he returned to the Bank where he was posted in diverse locations in British Columbia and Alberta, retired as a senior inspector in Edmonton in 1980.

Dad loved cricket and soccer. Throughout his adult life he donated endless hours to assorted service clubs. He enjoyed reading. Dad married his beloved wife of 61 years, Velma Rose (nee Westwood) on July 2, 1947. Survived by Velma, four children: Sharon of Nanaimo, David, Edmund (Ted) and Carol of Edmonton, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Joan and Una. Predeceased by his parents and sisters Margaret (Peggy) and June. A loving husband, terrific father, and good man in every way, he will be greatly missed.

Memorial service will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1 Newcastle Avenue, Nanaimo, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rotary Club would be appreciated.
