O’Dwyer, Doreen Olive (nee Bowater)

April 9, 1929 – January 29, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend. She is predeceased by her parents: William and Catherine Bowater; her husband, Donald O’Dwyer and sister Margaret Tucker (nee Bowater)

Left to mourn: her son, Patrick (Kelly); grandchildren: Aidan, Matthew, Rachel and Jordan. Doreen was born in Extension, B.C. where she grew up with her mom, dad and older sister Marg. While Dad worked in the mines, the girls tended to all the household chores, with love and enthusiasm. As a teenager, she enjoyed dancing, and met her husband Don. In the early years, she and Don would tear up the dance floor, while listening to Big Band Music. She enjoyed the trips to the casino with her sister Marg, playing bingo and the nickel slots. Her greatest joys were watching her son and grandchildren play Hockey, Lacrosse and Soccer. Always a supporter of the Nanaimo Timbermen Lacrosse, she attended many games at the Civic Arena with Don, their most dedicated fan.

A special thank you to Dr. Ehman and all the staff and friends at Malaspina Gardens these past 4 years, helping Mom cope with her dementia. She will be greatly missed and always loved, by those who knew her. Now she and Don can listen to Big Band Music and dance all day long! God speed Mom!

Service to be held, February 12, 2010 at First Memorial Funeral Home at 1720 Bowen Rd,

at 2:00pm.
