BANTING, D.W. (Don)
Born November 1, 1922 in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan. Don served this country in WWII with the RCAF. He was awarded the “Distinguished Flying Cross” (DFC) in February 1945 for his efforts while serving with the 438 Squadron.
After the war he graduated from UBC School of Engineering and worked as a Civil Engineer, until semi-retiring in the mid 1980s.
Dad died peacefully at NRGH on November 2, 2006. He was predeceased by infant son, Brian, in March 1948 and by Phyllis, his wife of 50 years, in April 1995. Don is survived by his five children: Cathie, New Westminster; Gordon (Aruna), Calgary; Gary, Surrey; Rick, Cranbrook; and Carol (Wes), Nanaimo. Don was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. We’ll miss you Dad.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Bowen Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, Nanaimo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Research of the Variety Children’s Charity.
