Catherine MOUNCE

Mounce, Catherine passed away at Nanaimo General Hospital on the morning of November 3, 2002 after a long hard fought battle with cancer. She was born in North Vancouver on August 25, 1954 to Hugh and Jean Farmer. Cathy is survived by her husband Donald and daughters Kirsten and Meaghan; sister Frances Farmer of Nanaimo, and brother Allan Farmer of Prince George. She also has extended family in Eastern Canada and other parts of B.C. Cathy was raised in Duncan and moved to Nanaimo after marrying in 1970. She was a teacher at N.D.S.S. and taught biology, coached field hockey and counseled. After having children, she stopped teaching and took up pottery. She was a member of the Nanaimo Pottery Co-op and sold her work at the Artisan’s Studio. She also taught pottery with Artist’s in the school and continued working with them doing scheduling in the later years of her life. Cathy was very supportive of her children’s activities. She helped organize and chaperone many band functions at Cedar Junior Secondary School. She was involved in 4-H and was the leader of the Nanaimo 4-H Poultry Club and was a member of the Cedar 4-H council. She belonged to the Breast Cancer Support Group and received great comfort from the other members. Later in her life, she enjoyed spending time at her family cabin on Mudge Island and leading a laid-back life style with family and friends in Cedar by the Sea. The family wishes to thank the great support of all the friends who have stood by her from the beginning of her battle. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, B.C. on Friday, November 8, 2002 at 2:00pm. A reception will follow at 3:00pm at Cottonwood Golf Course, 1975 Haslam Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breast Cancer Research, Nanaimo Unit Canadian Cancer Society, 3148D Barons Road, Nanaimo, B.C. V9T 4B5
