DE LUCIA, Betty Rozella
March 26, 1926 - August 19, 2008
Rosie passed away peacefully at Nanaimo General Hospital on August 19th after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by her brother Dominic (Lynne), sisters Lila Dolan (St. Bride's Alberta), Idel (Tony) De Lucia of Rome Italy and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Domenico and mother Idel De Lucia and brothers Norman and Frank and sister Annie.
Rose was born in Ladysmith and embarked on many career adventures in her youth, which included jobs at the company cookhouse, the hospital, and the smelter. Never afraid of "work", brief out-of-town stints included waitressing, fish canning, and, of all things, the WACs. Playtime for Rosie was on the softball field. She loved the game and traveled with friends to play in many tournaments in BC and the US.
Eventually, she moved to Oshawa, ON, where she worked for General Motors (27 years) on the assembly line as an inspector. Upon retirement she returned to Ladysmith and pursued her passions for golf, gardening, and keeping an eagle eye on the current news and the parliament channel to catch the politicians at their finest (acting like badly-behaved children.)
Rose requested these last words be passed along:
"As I turn the last page of the last chapter of my life, I want to say: Thank you to all of you who shared a smile, a laugh, or a hug."
At Rose's request, there will be no formal service. However a memorial and tea will be held at the Eagle's Hall on Wednesday, August 27th at 1:00 pm.
