“Benita” CASSAR TORREGGIANI, B. A.

March 3, 1925 – January 18, 2009

Born in Florence, Italy, daughter of Walter Curzon Shepherd and Ann Holmstrom, she leaves her beloved husband of 64 years, Frank and her special children Anne (Dave) Cavazzi, Patricia Jansen, Peter (Rosanne Garcia), Benita, Victoria Olson, Kim (Paul Morford), ten grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends. Benita served in the Royal Navy and was posted overseas in Naval Intelligence during W.W.II. Benita and Frank came to Canada in 1948 living in Kamloops and retiring to Vancouver Island in 1984. She was fluent in five languages and among her many accomplishments was a university degree in Liberal Arts at age 75. She loved travelling particularly to Nicaragua, was a passionate reader, an avid crossword puzzler and enjoyed bridge and cribbage.

We wish to thank Dr. Hepburn, Dr. Spry, nurses, and the Hospice volunteers at the Palliative Care unit of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital as well as the Home Care Nursing and support staff.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday January 24, 2009 at 1:00PM at First Memorial Funeral Services 1720 Bowen Rd. Nanaimo, BC .
