Allan Young, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend to all, passed away on November 14, 2010. Predeceased by his parents Jack & Mildred Young and his sister Jean. Al is survived by his best friend and wife, Maureen; daughter, Heather (Paul); sons: Dave (Debbie) and Kevin (Tina); grandchildren: Gabrielle, Liam, Seth, Emma, Erika, Maryn, Jaime. He is also survived by mother-in-law, Joan O’Hara; brother-in-law Danny O’Hara (Marilyn); Uncle Mat Stringfellow; Rhonda Dunwoody (Bob) and their families; cousins: Carol, Freda & Joan as well as many extended family members.

Al, was born and raised in Victoria, attending Mount Doug High School but for most of his life he considered Nanaimo home. He was a lineman for B.C. Telephone and really enjoyed his work until retirement. He played fast ball with the Harmac ball team, was a volunteer fireman and trustee of the Extension Volunteer Fire Department and served for nine years as a Commissioner with the Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture. He played an instrumental part in the development and completion of the Extension Miners Community Park. Al was always involved in sports, whether it be playing, coaching or cheering on the grandchildren - he was their biggest fan.

A special thank you to everyone that supported us with their many generous acts of kindness, visits, phone calls, cards, all the gifts of food and all those that made sure we had our winter supply of wood. It meant so much to Al and I, we were overwhelmed and very appreciative. Thank you everyone!

Al wanted everyone to know that he cherished the friendships he made throughout the years.

A special thank you to Dr.’s Kurytnik and Kingston and the nurses and staff who cared for Al at NRGH.

Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Al at a tea to be held at our home on Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
