Youth hit by vehicle in north Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP, ambulance crews and Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to the scene on Norwell Drive, near the Departure Bay Road intersection, where a youth was hit by a vehicle at about 8:25 a.m. According to police, a male youth was injured in the collision and was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. His parents have been advised of the incident.

Police are investigating an accident in north Nanaimo where a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

Nanaimo RCMP, ambulance crews and Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to the scene on Norwell Drive, near the Departure Bay Road intersection, where a youth was hit by a vehicle at about 8:25 a.m. this morning (May 1).

According to police, a male youth was transported to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. He received significant but non-life threatening injuries when he attempted to cross over Norwell Drive en route to his nearby school.

Investigators spoke with several witnesses who confirmed the youth was not in a designated crosswalk and was struck by a southbound car driven by a 48 year old woman.

Speed, alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as contributing factors. It was overcast at the time of the accident and the roads were wet from a light rainfall.

His parents have been advised of the incident.
