Wet weather is hampering pothole and road repairs.

The city said in a press release it acknowledges potholes and road construction projects around town are creating inconveniences for motorists. Crews are striving to get caught up with the paving required, but have been hampered by wet weather.

The necessary work needs dry conditions for paving and there’s a backlog of work on the Island, it says.

“Nanaimo’s roads have been hit hard by weather so far this year,” said Brad McRae, city chief operations officer. “Potholes from the cold, prolonged winter and major infrastructure projects, combined with a very wet spring, all conspire to delay our repair and repaving program.

“The city understands the inconvenience for the travelling public, and is grateful for motorists’ patience. We are working hard to catch up as the weather allows.”
