Weapons, stolen property seized during arrest

NANAIMO – Police seize firearms and suspected stolen property following chase and arrest in south Nanaimo.

Mounties confiscated firearms and suspected stolen property and arrested two suspects following a chase in south Nanaimo Thursday.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a traffic officer spotted a stolen B.C. licence plate on a grey Plymouth Acclaim. The driver of the Acclaim refused to stop when the Mountie switched on his emergency lights on Nicol Street near the Value Lodge. Two suspects bailed out of the Plymouth when it struck the corner of the Value Lodge, ran across Nicol Street and into Snuneymuxw First Nation reserve. A police dog team and other members gave chase.

Two Nanaimo teens, 18 and 17, both known to police, were arrested after about 40 minutes.

A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded .22-calibre firearm and other guns, plus ammunition and suspected stolen property.

Both suspects were held in custody and were scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Friday.
