VIU gets $83K from province for aboriginal communities program

Money will support 12 full-time seats at Vancouver Island University.

Vancouver Island University’s aboriginal communities program will receive $83,200 from the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education, the provincial government has announced.

The monies will go to fund 12 additional full-time equivalent seats in community health promotion for aboriginal communities program.

“The part-time certificate program blends in-class and online learning and includes a practicum component,” noted a press release. “Graduates of the program can find employment in health-related roles supporting aboriginal communities including community health representative, aboriginal health coordinator and community engagement facilitator.”

The program is scheduled to start in September.
