A 69-year-old motorist accidentally crashed into the window of a Ladysmith storefront on Saturday morning after an issue with her footwear while attempting to park on First Avenue.

The woman was pulling into an angled spot at around 10 a.m. when she “accelerated, jumped the curb and smashed into the business,” said Cpl. Rick Fraser of the Ladysmith RCMP, speaking to Black Press.

“Fortunately no pedestrians were in the area at the time and the business was not open.”

The front window of E&S Heating was shattered but the building didn’t appear to have any structural damage.

Police said the driver was wearing a pair of sandals which she hadn’t worn before while behind the wheel.

“It is theorized that this was a contributing factor to the collision, in that her foot was pressing simultaneously on the brake and accelerator,” Fraser said. “The harder she pressed, the faster she went.”

The woman was assessed by B.C. Ambulance at the scene but didn’t suffer any injuries.

Police said they wouldn’t being laying charges.
