A pair of condominium towers could rise over Nanaimo’s north end in the years to come.
Two 20-storey condos, referred to as Georgiaview Towers, have been envisioned for a 1.27-hectare patch of vacant land on 6340 McRobb Ave.
A video posted on www.georgiaviewtowers.com shows renderings of two high-rise condominiums on the property. The video also shows the spectacular views that would be provided to tenants, should the towers be built.
Cody Dreger, realtor with Layzell, Dreger, Walton and Associates, said at this point, Georgiaview Towers are merely a vision for the vacant land, which is listed for sale at $6.48 million.
“It’s just a concept right now,” Dreger said. “It’s a zoned piece of property that we are putting out there to the world.”
Dreger said the project needs a developer or developers who could follow through with the conceptual vision for site, adding that the two-tower concept would likely be an $80-100 million development.
“We are looking for a developer to basically take this on,” he said.
The vacant land is currently zoned for high-density, high-rise residential buildings according to the City of Nanaimo’s website. Dreger said the conceptual condos would be each be 66 metres in height and have a combined gross building area of around 32,500 square metres.
“We figure that you can get about 300 units in total in the two buildings,” he said.
If realized, the Georgiaview Towers would be within walking distance of Woodgrove Centre and other retail outlets in the area and would offer views of Mount Benson, Lantzville Foothills and the Strait of Georgia.
“It’s a special location,” Dreger said. “It’ll have unbelievable views.”
Although there is no timeline for when the project could come to fruition, Dreger is confident it will happen within a 10-year period.
“If you take a look at the expansion of Nanaimo in the last five to 10 years and the floodgates of people moving here, absolutely,” he said. “I’ve had people calling me asking how they can pre-purchase units in the building.”
