A thief allegedly stole a First Nations art piece from a shop in Nanaimo last weekend.

An totem pole statuette valued at more than $1,000 was stolen from an unlocked glass case at Hill’s Native Art on Bastion Street last Sunday. The art piece was 18 centimetres (seven inches) tall and made of argillite.

The theft occurred sometime between noon and 3 p.m., according to an RCMP press release detailing recent unsolved crimes.
