The surveys are in and will now be used for community planning in Lantzville.

Surveys were mailed out last month by the district and were due by April 7, asked individuals questions about the future of community planning and water within Lantzville. The surveys are part of district’s ongoing water master plan and official community plan update, which is being led by Lanarc Consultants.

Frank Limshue, the district’s community planner, said once all the surveys have been returned it will take about a month for Lanarc and the district to analyze the data.

“That will give us some ideas as to whether or not we are on the right track, what concepts seem to be supportive of versus what they are not supportive of, certainly on the land use side of things,” Limshue said.

Following the results of the community survey as well as feedback from the OCP review committee, Limshue and Larnarc will begin creating a draft community plan.

“The next step for us as a group, between me and the consultants, is to start putting pen to paper and drafting the document based on the comments that we’ve heard,” he said.

Limshue said the community will have an opportunity to review the draft plan once it is completed.

“We plan to engage the community again to say ‘hey look, this is what we’ve heard and this is the path we are heading down. Are we still on the right track?’” Limshue said.

The district had originally planned to finish the review and adopt a new OCP by this coming fall, but Limshue said adoption won’t take place until later due to small delays such as the kitchen table meetings, which ran longer than expected.

“We’re basically a month behind right now because we were hoping to get the survey out. In a perfect world we would have gotten it out in February,” he said.

Limshue said the district’s adoption deadline is “self-imposed” and that it could be done later than January if necessary.

“If we miss November and it is not adopted until December or even January, it is not the end of the world,” he said.
