An 18-year-old student at a senior secondary school in Nanaimo is in police custody for allegedly making unspecified threats directed toward a school.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, police were advised of the threats by school officials Tuesday and determined there were sufficient grounds to arrest the male suspect.

Police arrested him at his home Tuesday night without incident and he is currently in custody.

Investigators do not believe any other students were involved and police are not saying which school the threats were made against or the nature of the threats.

RCMP school liaison officers will be at the school throughout the day to reassure students, staff and parents and answer any questions or concerns that may arise.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
