UPDATE: A man who was missing in the Doumont hill area has been found safe.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED: Nanaimo RCMP and Nanaimo Search and Rescue are combing the area around Weigles Road for a mountain biker who didn’t return from a ride Monday.

Matthew Storey, 38, went for a ride on the trails in the area at about noon Monday, but did not return that night.

“He’s an avid biker. He drove his truck up to the end of Weigles and was expected home last night but hasn’t returned,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

O’Brien said Storey’s father found his son’s truck parked on Weigles Road on Tuesday morning.

“So we’ve initiated the search. SAR’s been called out and we’ll have one or two dogs searching that area,” O’Brien said. “They’ve gone up as far as Boomerang Lake.”

Police did not have a photo of Storey available Tuesday morning, but are asking anyone who encounters Storey to contact them by calling 911, if Storey is in a condition requiring emergency assistance. Otherwise call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

“If somebody’s out there and they can call in with their GPS coordinates, that would be very helpful as well,” O’Brien said.
