A motorist wasn’t seriously hurt after rolling his car at an intersection on the Island Highway.

The one-vehicle crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on Friday on the highway at the Ware Road intersection in Lantzville and backed up northbound traffic. Two northbound lanes and both turning lanes were closed while crews cleared the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, who had been driving north to Parksville, said he veered into the left-turn lane to avoid rear-ending a vehicle in front of him. His tires caught the median and his car struck the traffic light post, which caused the car to roll. It rolled all the way over and came to rest right-side up in the middle of the intersection. The driver said his airbags did not activate in the crash.
