The Regional District of Nanaimo has launched a new Emergency Notification System.

The project coincides with Emergency Preparedness Week (May 8-14) when RDN staff will be in communities helping people sign up with the notification system and will continue to be available at community events and markets throughout the summer to answer questions and provide help to people wishing to sign up with the alert system.

RDN emergency notifications will alert residents and visitors with text and voice messages during emergencies, such as floods, fires and storms.

People can sign up for the system and learn more about it at Gabriola Fire Hall No. 1 Saturday (May 13) at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
