With the risk of fire due to the weather, the Regional District of Nanaimo has closed part of the Trans Canada Trail.

The closure affects Trans Canada Trail from the Timberlands Road trailhead by Haslam Creek suspension bridge to the Harewood Mines Road trailhead at the region’s boundary with the City of Nanaimo, the regional district said in a press release.

“Landowner Island Timberlands has advised that most company property will be closed to recreational users due to increasing fire hazard,” the regional district said.

The regional district is reminding residents that the forecast calls for dry and windy weather, which has elevated the wildfire risk.

Smoking is not permitted on any regional district park or trail.

Anyone who sees a wildfire, is asked to call 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 on a cellphone.
