RCMP investigating suspicious car fire

Nanaimo Fire Rescue has turned an investigation into a vehicle fire over to Nanaimo RCMP.

Alan Millbank, Nanaimo Fire Rescue fire prevention officer, confirmed Tuesday a fire that destroyed a late model Mitsubishi Lancer appeared suspicious and was turned over to police.

Firefighters responded to the burning car, which was located near a warehouse at 640 Pine St. on Saturday at about 7:30 p.m.

“All I can tell is that one was suspicious. It looked like it was intentionally set,” Millbank set.

No injuries were reported and a nearby building suffered heat damage to an overhead door.
