Residents can listen in on future improvement plans for Colliery Dam Park and provide input during an open house this Saturday (April 1).

The City of Nanaimo has mapped out new additions for the park, with an aim in its park improvement action plan to update the greenspace so it can stay current with changing park use and community needs.

This year planning improvements include artwork in the spillway area, locating a new fishing float and picnic shelter, a city press release shows.

“The City has been working with community groups such as the Harewood Neighbourhood Association and Colliery Dams Preservation Society since last year to implement the plan,” said Rob Lawrance, city parks and open space planner in the press release. “We look forward to hearing what park users have to say about the proposed improvements.”

Information on the overall plan will be up for review at the open house and city staff will be available to answer questions and get public input. The event goes from 11 a.m.-2p.m.and will be held at the lower lake between the washrooms and old spillway.
