The Port of Nanaimo has decided on a permanent chief executive officer.

Ian Marr, who had been co-CEO of the port authority in recent months, has been promoted to permanent CEO. Mike Davidson, who had been the other co-CEO, becomes chief operating officer.

In a press release announcing the hirings, Marr said he wishes to proceed with current initiatives such as the vehicle processing centre, develop more business and create jobs.

He said the port will be “reconnecting” with stakeholders, partners and other members of the community in prioritizing and planning.

“I am happy, excited and honoured to be appointed to lead the team at the Port of Nanaimo through a very exciting period in its development,” said Marr.

As COO, Davidson will oversee day-to-day business operations, according to the release.

Both he and Marr have been with the port authority since the 1980s.

Michelle Corfield, chairwoman of the Port of Nanaimo board, said in the release that it is “gratifying to have two dependable, long-term employees with deep local roots ready to serve and help us build on our strengths moving forward.”

Ewan Moir, the Port of Nanaimo’s previous CEO, held that role for about a year. This past October the port confirmed Moir was no longer with the organization.
