After four straight weeks of triple-digit COVID-19 cases counts in Nanaimo, new cases were down significantly last week.
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control released data Wednesday, Dec. 1, showing new COVID-19 cases by local health area for the week of Nov. 21-27, and Greater Nanaimo was down to 55 new cases for that week after 140 new cases the week before.
The Comox Valley took over as the Island’s hot spot for new cases with 80 last week, while northern Vancouver Island remained the Island’s hot spot for new cases per capita with 22 new cases.
According to Island Health, there are 491 active cases, with 213 on the central Island, 163 on the north Island and 115 on the south Island.
