Police, firefighters and ambulance paramedics scrambled to what proved to be a bogus report of shots fired in Nanaimo this morning (May 25).

The incident happened at about 11:40 a.m. when police responded to a report of shots fired in a residence on the 200 block of Nicol Street in Nanaimo’s south end.

As a precaution, police also had a hold and secure condition placed on Bayview Elementary School, located a few blocks away from where the incident was reported, but after searching several residences, police confirmed the report was totally false and arrested one woman for public mischief.

According to police, the woman was in custody shortly after 1 p.m.

Nanaimo School District posted on social media that the hold and secure condition at Bayview Elementary School was lifted at about 12:30 p.m.
