The Nanaimo RCMP located and arrested a man wanted for violent offences.

Police had issued warrants for Lance Point, 34, of Nanaimo, earlier Wednesday and thanks to a tip from the public was able to arrest him at 5:30 p.m., Const. Gary O’Brien said in a press release.

“General duty officers, assisted by Police Dog Services attended Shoreline Drive in the south end of Nanaimo,” said O’Brien. “Upon seeing the officers, Point attempted to run, but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.”

After a Tip from the public, Lance Point was arrested at approximately 530pm this date. He is currently in police custody.

According to an earlier press release, Point was wanted for several violent offences and numerous warrants.

Point was charged with assault with a weapon and assault following a violent confrontation May 18 when officers attempted to arrest him on outstanding warrants. During the altercation, Point allegedly said he would stab an officer with a knife he had in his possession. Several bystanders assisted the officer to restrain Point and and take him into custody.
