The Nanaimo Port Authority announced today that Ewan Moir will be its new president and chief executive officer.

A new chief executive officer will take the wheel at Nanaimo Port Authority.

The port authority announced today that Ewan Moir will be its new president and CEO.

Moir, currently the president and chief operating officer of the wood-pellet manufacturer Pacific BioEnergy Corporation, will take on the new role in the Harbour City Oct. 10.

“The board conducted an extensive search and met with many highly-qualified applicants. Ewan’s world-wide leadership and management experience really stood out and we were unanimous in our decision,” said Moira Jenkins, chairwoman of the Nanaimo Port Authority in a press release. “His people-focused leadership style, vast industry expertise and exceptional business development skills will serve to build on the excellent foundation already established at NPA.”

The new CEO takes over for Bernie Dumas, who announced his retirement earlier this year after nine years in the position.

Moir’s first order of business will be to focus on all issues related to the Port.

“I want to take what my predecessor Bernie Dumas and his team and the board have done and build on that,” he said in the release.

“We are juggling a number of opportunities at present. We have many stakeholders like the recreational boater, the businesses along the waterfront, the Assembly Wharf and Duke Point in our working relationship.”

He also has a priority of engaging the port’s community partners including the City of Nanaimo and Snuneymuxw First Nation to develop a relationship that ensures all members with an interest in the activities of the port work together for the future.

Moir began his business career in the marine ship building support industry at Ulstein UK in 1988, which company became part of Rolls-Royce Canada in 2000. He was also president of Mainland Sand and Gravel, senior vice president at SNC-Lavalin, president and CEO of Fraser River Pile and Dredge Inc., and held a senior position at Finning International, the press release says.
