Nanaimo man faces drug, weapon charges after RCMP search

A man faces a slew of charges, including possession for purposes of trafficking following the execution of a search warrant in south Nanaimo on Thursday.

Levar Anthony Hayden, 30, was arrested at approximately 7 p.m. following a drug investigation spearheaded by the Nanaimo RCMP Projects Team, Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said in a press release.

Hayden has been charged with a six counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, possession of a prohibited weapon (switchblade) and possession of stolen property (various bank cards).

According to O’Brien, 30 credit cards, four cellphones and $1,260 Canadian were also seized.

The drugs consisted of 49 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 15 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl and two grams of suspected cocaine, O’Brien said.

A 40-year-old female was also arrested, but was not charged and released.

Hayden appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Friday afternoon and will next appear in court Oct. 26.
