Nanaimo heads to the polls Saturday

Nanaimo voters are about to fill the ninth seat on city council.

Nanaimo’s general byelection happens today (July 8), when one of 13 candidates will be elected for a 15-month term on city council.

People will be able to cast ballots from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Beban Park social centre, Chase River Elementary School, City of Nanaimo Service and Resource Centre, Departure Bay Activity Centre, Georgia Avenue Elementary School, McGirr Elementary School, Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, Nanaimo Alliance Church and Randerson Ridge Elementary School, and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Protection Island Fire Hall.

Preliminary results will be on the city website after polls close. The Shaw Auditorium at the conference centre will be open from 7-9 p.m., when candidates can watch the results come in.
