Bayview Elementary School entered into hold-and-secure protocol this morning after reports of a suspicious person near the school, says Nanaimo school district.
The school entered into hold-and-secure – where school entryways are locked, but students and staff go about business as usual – at 8:45 a.m., said Dale Burgos, district spokesman. Nanaimo RCMP and its liaison officer attended the scene and worked with the school, he said.

“It was an individual that was in the vicinity of the school, close to the students, talked to some of the students. [I’m] not exactly sure on the details of the individual itself, but everyone’s fine,” said Burgos. “Nobody was harmed, however just as a precaution, we needed to enter the hold-and-secure.”
The hold-and-secure was lifted at approximately 9:40 a.m.
