Nanaimo homeowners will see a 1.5-per cent tax hike this year.

Nanaimo city council adopted its financial plan amendment bylaw and tax rates bylaw on Monday.

For the average home that’s seen a market increase in assessment value of 13.64 per cent, the tax hike translates to $27.64. User rates for water and sewer and garbage charges will push the number to $68.87, according to the City of Nanaimo.

Property taxes will also include other charges, like for the Vancouver Island Regional Library and Regional District of Nanaimo.

Only city coun. Diane Brennan was opposed to the financial plan amendment bylaw.

The tax due date is July 4.
