Multiple cruise ships to visit Nanaimo this weekend

A busy weekend for tourism in Nanaimo began with a visit from the cruise ship Celebrity Infinity.

The 294-metre-long ship with 1,200 crew and accommodations for up to 2,200 passengers anchored at the Nanaimo cruise ship terminal this morning (May 26) for a 10-hour visit.

It’s on a 12-day cruise that started in San Diego, Calif., and includes port calls in Santa Barbara, Calif., Monterey, Calif., San Francisco, Astoria, Ore., Seattle, Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s slightly smaller cruise ship Norwegian Sun, which carries up to 2,300 passengers and 850 crew, will arrive in Nanaimo for a 10-hour stay on Sunday (May 28).

A total of six cruise ships are scheduled to dock in Nanaimo this year and represents an economic impact of $2.87 million indirect or direct spending according to the Cruise Line Association.
