One year after Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary and the parrots rescued from the Coombs World Parrot Refuge moved from Nanaimo to Vancouver, hundreds of the birds have found new homes.

In a press release issued this week, the parrot rescue organization reported that of the 584 birds originally recovered, 190 parrots are still awaiting adoption at a temporary shelter in Vancouver where they are being cared for by 125 volunteers who caring for the birds, making them toys, cuddling and socializing them.

Caring for hundreds of parrots, wages for some paid staff and veterinary fees has put Greyhaven and the Night Owl Bird Hospital in a position where the agencies are financially struggling to stay afloat, according to the press release.
