Police in Nanaimo are investigating after a safe was stolen during a break-and-enter at a gas station in the city’s north end last week.

The break-in happened Sept. 8 at about 4:30 a.m. at the Gas N Go, located at 5800 Turner Rd. Police were advised of an alarm activation and found the front door to the business pried open and the safe missing.

The safe contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators reviewing video surveillance observed a white Ram 1500 pickup driving slowly through the parking lot just prior to the break in. Moments later, a male suspect is seen prying open a door to the business and running inside.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5-foot-10 and heavy set and was wearing a grey T-shirt, jeans, gloves and black runners. He was also wearing both a mask and a bandana.

Minutes after entering the business, the suspect left with the safe and drove away in the truck seen earlier. The vehicle was last seen turning onto Turner Road toward the old Island Highway.

The stolen safe was found, emptied of its contents, the next day in Lantzville.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2020-32975.
