Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Nanaimo parking lot

A man was found dead in a Nanaimo parking lot this morning from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to an RCMP press release, police responded to a report of a deceased man in the 2000 block of Island Highway North at 4:40 a.m. this morning (June 20).

It appears the 26-year-old Nanaimo man was dead prior to police being contacted.

“Police and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating this incident, however, foul play is not suspected at this time,” said Cpl. Jon Stuart, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

The family has been notified, Stuart said.
