Travellers trying to take the last ferry of the weekend to or from Duke Point weren’t able to cross the strait Sunday night.

According to a B.C. Ferries service notice, the Coastal Renaissance sailing from Duke Point had to be returned to dock in Nanaimo “due to a mechanical difficulty with an electrical issue.”

The 8:15 p.m. sailing from Duke Point to Tsawwassen was cancelled, as was the 10:45 p.m. sailing from Tsawwassen to Duke Point.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of the cancellations,” the service notice read.

Earlier Sunday, ferries heading to and from Nanaimo’s Departure Bay terminal were delayed after the Queen of Oak Bay and the Queen of Cowichan were called to assist with a rescue after a boat overturned in the Strait of Georgia.
