Lantzville tenders water pipeline

NANAIMO – Construction could begin next month on pipe to eventually link Nanaimo's water supply to Lantzville.

Lantzville is one step closer to putting a pipe in the ground.

The District of Lantzvile has officially released an invitation to tender the construction of a water pipeline that will run from Lantzville Road to Schook Road.

Fred Manson, the district’s interim chief administrative officer, said a tender could be issued as early as this week.

Manson said staff will review all tenders before making a recommendation to councillors, who would then need to give their approval before construction can actually take place.

“It would be sometime in March that it would come to council,” Manson said.

Last year, councillors voted 4-3 in favour of constructing the $800,000 pipeline, which would run through lower Lantzville but not connect with Nanaimo. The pipeline will eventually link Lantzville to Nanaimo’s water supply, triggering the Lantzville-Nanaimo water agreement.

However, councillors would also need to vote on when any such connection would be made.
