A moving-day fire has led to the displacement of a number of individuals in Nanaimo.

The fire occurred on Saturday shortly after 4 p.m. while the individuals were moving into the a home on the 1000 block of Beverly Drive, according to Martin Drakeley, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief of operations.

“It looks like people put something down on the stove, boxes or whatever,” he said. “They were moving in and they must have accidentally hit the knob. When they came in, the kitchen was fully engulfed.”

Drakeley said crews responded to the scene and no one was hurt, but didn’t know exactly how many people had been displaced.
