A boat in a backyard was targeted by a thief or thieves last week.

According to a recent Nanaimo RCMP unsolved crimes report, fishing equipment was stolen from a boat behind a house on Stephenson Point Road on Sept. 17.

Two electric downriggers and mounts with braided line, rigging and cannonball weights were taken, along with other fishing tackle and a Magma stainless steel marine barbecue.

The incident wasn’t the only instance of theft from a boat this month in the city. Fishing equipment – including a downrigger, mounts and balls – was also stolen from a boat parked on the side of a home on Sedona Way on Sept. 8 at approximately 11 p.m. A neighbour spoke with the thieves during the theft but didn’t realize they were stealing from the boat. Two male suspects and two female suspects were involved and were also seen Sept. 7 at the Brechin Boat Ramp. No description was provided of the four suspects.
