Fire crews from the province and TimberWest rushed to try to snuff out a wildfire near Nanaimo Lakes Road on Wednesday morning.
According to Coast Fire Centre, the fire was discovered at 6:48 a.m. about 30 metres from Nanaimo Lakes Road, several kilometres west of Nanaimo.
“We had crews dispatched at 7:37 [a.m.],” said Jessica Poustie, Coastal Fire Centre information officer. “It’s just a very small spot fire; a Rank 1, smokey, low-creeping fire in standing timber.”
The fire is on TimberWest land, Poustie said, and TimberWest personnel were on scene with six provincial firefighters.
“Crews are on scene to contain it and extinguish it, so I don’t expect it to amount to much,” Poustie said.
