One driver was flown via air ambulance to Victoria last night after two vehicles collided north of Nanaimo in Lantzville.

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night on Lantzville Road, near Superior Road.

According to police, the vehicles collided, which caused one of the vehicles to run into a small tree on the north side of the road. The other came to rest into a ditch on the south side of the road, trapping its driver, who had to be extricated by first responders. That driver was helicoptered to Victoria with what were called serious but non life-threatening injuries, according to a press release from Nanaimo RCMP.

“General duty investigators are continuing the investigation with the assistance of a collision analyst. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor. Speed has not been ruled out at this point,” said Const. Derek Balderston, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

Anyone who has witnessed the incident, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
