Construction is about to begin on a roundabout on Rutherford hill.

According to a City of Nanaimo press release, construction starts today (May 24) on a roundabout at Nelson and Rutherford roads. The realignment will provide access to the Linley West subdivision.

“The intersection upgrade work and traffic pattern changes have been arranged to minimize impacts to motorists, residents and businesses, however, lengthy delays should still be anticipated,” said Chris Lang, project engineer with the city, in the press release. “We encourage people to consider alternate routes and appreciate your patience when driving through the construction zone.”

Motorists should expect changes to traffic patterns, and are asked to drive with caution and obey signs and traffic control personnel. Crews will try to maintain two-way traffic as often as possible, but the project will require occasional single-lane alternating traffic.

Businesses near the site will remain open and access will be maintained.

There will be no access to Nelson Road from Rutherford Road during July and August.
