A log boom in Colliery Dam Park will be moved to improve the look of the reservoir and protect a new auxiliary spillway from floating debris.

“The city’s decision to relocate the log boom will address concerns involving the unsightly build up of debris on water surface while ensuring that floating debris does not impact the auxiliary spillway’s effectiveness,” said Brad McRae, city chief operations officer, in a press release.

The log boom will be moved this month from the original spillway to the auxiliary spillway at the lower Colliery dam. The change is also expected to reduce maintenance.
