A City of Nanaimo manager has received recognition for her work at the Public Works Association of B.C.’s annual conference in Penticton.

Charlotte Davis, city manager of sanitation, recycling and public works administration, has been awarded the inaugural Women’s Ambassador Award by the association, according to a press release.

As a recipient of the award, Davis has displayed “excellence that sets a benchmark for public works professionals to strive for” and serves as a role model for other women, the association said.

“I feel very honoured to receive this award and would like to thank PWABC and the City of Nanaimo for this recognition,” Davis said in the release. “The public works field holds many great career opportunities for women and through this award, I hope to be able to encourage more women to step into this rewarding area. I really love working at public works at the City of Nanaimo. Every day I am given the opportunity to work hard, with great people in an area that I feel passionately about.”

Officials with the City of Nanaimo congratulated Davis on her award.

“Charlotte is an incredibly positive influence within the organization and in the community,” said John Elliot, city senior manger of public works, in the release. “Charlotte demonstrates great leadership in public works for solid waste collection through public education, the implementation of new and creative ways to handle solid waste and in her approach with the community by bringing the importance of public works services to the forefront of Nanaimo.”

“Throughout her tenure, Charlotte has demonstrated a strong commitment and passion to her work, and is a high performing employee. I am proud of her accomplishment and leadership to her team, public works and the City of Nanaimo.” Tracy Samra, the city’s chief administrative officer said in the release.
