Twenty-two people are vying for a seat on Nanaimo’s new tourism committee.

The City of Nanaimo will review 22 applications for the nine to 11 seats available on its tourism advisory committee. The decision on board members will be made in camera by council, although it’s not known when. Nanaimo is also on the search for tourism advisory consultant services, with a request for proposal closing April 18.

“The tourism advisory committee will have a terms of reference that will allow them to engage with the tourism industry, come up with recommendations on how tourism can be better structured, better integrated and better focused with a common vision and that’ll be what they will be working on over the course of this year,” said city communications manager Philip Cooper, adding the consultant will help them work through different ideas and suggestions that come up through engagement.
