Voters can ask questions of Nanaimo’s 13 byelection candidates in a debate this month.

The Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce will host an all-candidates meeting and debate at Beban Park social centre on June 27.

All candidates of the Nanaimo byelection will be invited to attend the event and have tables in the social centre, where they can receive visitors for an hour, beginning at 6 p.m. before the debate kicks off at 7 p.m., a press release shows. Dr. Carrie Chassels of Vancouver Island University will be the moderator.

“The chamber’s role as a non-partisan community organization is to focus on getting out the vote by promoting top-of-mind awareness around the candidates and issues, communicating updates on local informational events, and organizing this widely anticipated, independent all-candidates meeting,” said Kim Smythe, chief executive officer and president of the chamber, in a press release.

People can submit questions for candidates in advance through info@nanaimochamber.bc.ca. Questions will also be taken from the floor and vetted through scrutineers. For information on candidates in the race, see goo.gl/XKvkNk.
